FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.—A family of artists attended the final showing of Divine Performing Arts in Fort Laudersdale, Florida, on Dec. 20. Mrs. Placido, an actress, came to the show with her adult son, Mr. Placido, a guitarist and classical singer, and her daughter, Ms. Placido, a senior in art school and an actress.

Mr. Placido said: “I particularly love some of the dancing and the singers; they were incredible. I am a big fan of Tian Ge, the guy who sang last. I think he stole the show. And I found it very inspiring.”

“I found a lot [of] the music very moving. And some of the dance is incredible. The moves they were doing, I couldn’t ... I was like ... Wow!”

Mr. Placido is a classically trained singer, and said that because of this “I appreciate classical singing a lot. And these guys can sing.”

“I found it was very well suited, very well-composed. I mean, I just love the singers. I would say that, in the long run, I find a lot of the music very suited to the mood. But most of the time, the music just flows on, what am I trying to say ...” He thought for a moment, then said, “The music was just GOOD,” while laughing.

His mother, Mrs. Placido, said, “Well, it was evocative too.”

“Yes, that’s the word,” Mr. Placido said.

Mr. Placido said that when they first entered the theater, his mother immediately said, “Oh, I am really digging the high definition projector.” As a lighting designer, she said that she was interested in the setup immediately.

Mrs. Placido also said: “I really love in the first part, the divine music, when they started up as the flower that blooms, that we saw in both ways, we saw in the scenic, and we saw in the dancers’ movement, that works with the music so well.”

Mr. Placido liked "the ‘Monkey King’ one too. The music was just perfect with all the moves. I like when the bad guy, the temptress, comes out, the music just kind of changes just for a moment. And I found The Drummers of the Tang Court ... I found that one really cool. I love how they synchronized in kind of dance, while creating beats on the drums. And I love a lot flying in the air moves in the Dragon Springs Folk drums. Beside from that ... gee, wow!”

He said the music was “definitely” first class, “Hands down, you know, the music was, like, first rate.”

Ms. Placido, daughter of Mrs. Placido and sister of Mr. Placido, also spoke: “I just want to say I really liked the stories. They incorporated a lot of the stories, like the Mulan story, and the story of the Monkey King. I really liked that. And I also like how they crossed it with the interpretive dance of the performances, where they would have the deities coming down from heaven to earth, and then they would have a story come after that. And then they would have another interpretive dance where people were flowers. And then they would go back to a story. It really kept me involved. I really liked that.”
