DJ Ajax dies: The Australian electronic music producer died after being hit by a truck in Australia.
Electronic music producer DJ Ajax was killed in a road accident on Thursday—his birthday—in Australia. He was 42.
A truck collided with Ajax, whose real named was Adrian Thomas, in Melbourne, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.
“We are devastated and heartbroken to have lost Adrian and our thoughts are with his family and many, many friends who share our grief at this time,” reads a statement from the Sweat it Out label he started, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. The label said that Ajax was crucial in the Australian dance music scene.
“He was a hugely talented individual and was highly respected by the local and international dance music community as a pioneer and innovator,” it added. “Adrian touched so many people and it is impossible to sum up his legacy in words. We could talk about his countless successes and accolades in the many roles he played throughout his career.”
In 2006, Thomas was voted at the top of Australian dance portal Inthemix’s DJ poll. He was also named 3D magazine’s “World DJ of the year” three times, according to Billboard.com.
“Very few people have the gall to call themselves a legend, especially in Australia where proclaiming your own greatness has long been looked down upon. In that regard Ajax was in a league of his own. A true gentleman and a cherished friend, this week we lost one of Australia’s true legends,” reads a posting from Modular, according to Billboard.
