NEW YORK—Bob Figaro, founder of a medical logistics company, National Lab Express, felt a certain vibe from the Shen Yun Performing Arts performance this Saturday night. The group was “astounding,” he said.

Mr. Figaro brought his wife Paulette to the David H. Koch Theatre at the Lincoln Center to experience the world tour highlights of the New York-based company as they return to the Big Apple.

Mr. Figaro was at a loss for words when asked about his Shen Yun experience.

“I don’t know where to start, just about every performance was so beautiful,” he said.

One piece did, however, leave a lasting impression … the stirring sounds of the erhu, an ancient Chinese violin utilizing two strings by virtuoso Xiaochun Qi.

He said the melancholic tones “just pulled me in and out of a dream, it was one of the most incredible performances I have ever seen.”

Shen Yun features a wide array of dance and vocal performances. The orchestra pit houses a whole bouquet of classical Western and traditional Chinese musical instruments, that are combined to produce unique sounds and rhythms.

Mrs. Figaro agreed with her husband, adding, “It’s a beautiful show. Thank you so much.”

For the past five years, Shen Yun Performing Arts has wowed audiences around the world. The company’s artists are mainly ethnic Chinese raised in the West.

“The choreography, the color themes, all of it was very inspiring,” said Mr. Figaro.
