Robot Hallway Will Push Out Suspected Gunmen

You can forget about security guards if the Linear Revolving Door (LRD) security portal comes to light.

The robotic hallways work like straight revolving doors that move with you as you walk. It has two doors per hallway that momentarily close in front and behind each person coming through. If it detects a bomb or firearm on someone, it goes into reverse and pushes the person out of the building.

The LRD portals are equipped with both threat sensors and movement sensors. “The portal robotically follows their pace as they walk. If the pedestrian walks quickly, the portal door panels move quickly. If they walk slowly, the portal operates slowly. It they stop, the portal stops,” states a press release.

The robot hallways were recently patented by Barbecan Security Systems and are intended to guard buildings from shootings and terrorist attacks. The company states on its website that “Security checkpoints at entrances to secure buildings include metal detection and various forms of x-ray and scanning capability. However, if a person carrying a weapon is determined to pass through these security checkpoints knowing they would be instantly detected, they could do so, and until they were apprehended they could use their weapon with abandon.”

Barbecan claims the system is safe, and since it can adjust to each person’s walking speed, “LRD Portals can be used in high traffic entrances like schools, malls, theatres, stadiums, and factories,” states the press release.
