Amy Adams, star of Julie & Julia, has been cast to star in a biopic of 1960s American blues-rock singer Janis Joplin.
Access Hollywood reported that the film will portray the difficult life of the rock singer who sang such hits as “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Piece of My Heart," and "Cry Baby" and passed away at the age of 27. In 2008, Janis Joplin was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as number 28 of the rock periodical's "100 Greatest Singers of All Time." Her top-selling album Pearl, published in 1971 after her death, was ranked in 2004 as number 122 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time."
Wyck Godfrey, producer of the “Twilight Saga,” is set to produce the movie. Fernando Meirelles of "City of God" is set be its director. Adams, 35, is also expected to take a supporting role in upcoming film Fighter.
Starring in 2008 in the Sundance Film Festival hit Sunshine Cleaning, Amy Adams played opposite Emily Blunt as Rose Lorkowski, a single mother driven to unorthodox means (a family business cleaning up biohazards and crime-scenes) to fund her son's private education after the boy's expulsion from school. Adams earlier starred in Disney's Enchanted as Princess Giselle, a fairytale princess tricked and sent to New York City by an evil queen (Susan Sarandon), in the queen's bid to hang on to the fairytale kingdom's throne.
