The House Ways and Means Committee has issued a subpoena for officials at the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to investigate a particular claim that the agencies meddled to protect President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden against prosecution.

Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointment of Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss as Special Counsel for the Hunter Biden investigation may violate the law that created the position and requires it be filled by an individual who is impartial and from “outside of the government,” according to Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas).

Republicans criticized Attorney General Merrick Garland for elevating attorney David Weiss, who has been investigating President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, to special counsel status.
