One Killed, 6 Injured When SUV Overturns on Freeway in Boyle Heights

LOS ANGELES—A person was killed and six others were injured when an SUV overturned Jan. 1 morning on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Boyle Heights, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 6 a.m. on the eastbound freeway at Lorena Street, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Two people had to be extricated from the white SUV, the CHP said. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics reported one person dead at the scene and rushed six others to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately known.

A SigAlert was issued at 6:30 a.m. closing the No. 3, 4, and 5 lanes of the eastbound freeway. The Sigalert was updated at 8:09 a.m., closing the aforementioned lanes for an additional two hours.
