A cat was miraculously found alive this month after jumping into an Amazon return box in Lehi, Utah, and ending up in Southern California about a week later, the owner said in a Facebook post.
When Galena, the calico-colored adventurous cat, disappeared on April 10, her human family was heartbroken, not knowing where she’d gone or where they could find her.
“Our super shy indoor cat escaped today,” Ms. Carrie Clark, Galena’s owner and a mother of two, wrote in the post.
“My two girls and I are devastated. She’s a part of our family and has never been gone this long before,” Ms. Clark said on the platform.
The family finally received news about Galena’s unexpected whereabouts on April 17.
Brandy Hunter, an Amazon worker, found Galena in the Amazon box in Riverside, Calif., and took her to a vet, where they found the cat had a microchip. Ms. Clark then received a text message about what Galena had been up to.
“The CA vet then called me and told us what happened. At first I thought it was a prank!” Ms. Clark wrote in the Facebook post.
Galena had been trapped in the Amazon box for six days without food or water when she was found, Ms. Clark said. However, bloodwork results showed she was in perfect health, albeit skinnier than usual.
“We’re in awe of all the tender mercies that have taken place. It’s a total miracle!!” Ms. Clark said on the social media platform.
Ms. Clark traveled to California in a rental car to get the globe-trotting kitty, then returned home, Galena’s owner said.
“We made it home yesterday after traveling 1,600 miles in 24 hrs to get our kitty back!!” Ms. Clark said.
The box contained five pairs of work boots that Ms. Clark’s husband, Matt Clark, was returning, according to Fox News.
Ms. Clark suspects Galena jumped into the box just before Mr. Clark taped it shut.
“Most likely, she opened the flap, and it came down behind her,” Ms. Clark explained to the news channel.
However, the Clark family is glad to have their kitty back and expressed their gratitude to Ms. Hunter for having found the blue-eyed feline.
“We can’t thank Brandy [Hunter] enough for rescuing our baby and all the kindness and love that she shares to everyone,” Ms. Clark told Fox News. “Galena’s a part of our family, and we’re so grateful to have more time with her.”
