Police cleared Pro-Palestinian protesters from the Portland State University library twice as rioters vandalized downtown businesses and torched police cars.
A riot began late Tuesday night between opposing groups after counter-protesters supporting Israel pulled down barricades at the Royce Quad encampment.
Ms. Gilbert, a senior at Fordham University, was just one of hundreds of students watching protesters who were obstructing two entrances at the Jesuit school.

Portland State closed its campus as activists barricaded themselves in the library. Meanwhile, students at the University of Oregon began a peaceful protest.
