Thousands of Apple users across the United States reported having problems with sending iMessage texts on Thursday, according to an outage monitoring site. But Apple said that the outage has since been resolved.

Apple’s system status page shows that the iMessage service was down from 5.49 p.m. to 6.35 p.m. ET, with a note indicating that some users were “unable to use this service” during this time.

Other apps including Apple Messages for Business, FaceTime, and HomeKit were all hit by outages at the same time, according to Apple’s system status page. These services have since been restored.

The California-based tech giant did not specify the number of users affected and what caused the outages. The Epoch Times reached out to Apple for comments but did not hear back by publication time.

According to the Downdetector site, more than 14,700 Apple users in various locations of the United States submitted reports about iMessage outages as of 6.11 p.m. ET on May 16.

Among these reports, 75 percent cited experiencing problems in sending messages, 21 percent said they were unable to receive messages, while 4 percent said they experienced slow connections.

Some Apple users in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom have also been affected by iMessage outages on the same day, according to the outage monitoring site.
iMessages are texts, photos, or videos that users send to other Apple devices over Wi-Fi or mobile data networks. Apple’s support webpage recommends that users check their network connection if their messages do not go through. This recommendation was published on April 24.

“If you try to send a message and you see a red exclamation mark with an alert that says Not Delivered, follow these steps: Check your network connection. Tap the red exclamation mark, then tap Try Again,” the page says. Users can opt to send iMessages as text messages if the problem persists.

iMessage outage comes just two weeks after Apple users reported that their iPhone alarms were not functioning. Apple later confirmed the alarm issue to several news outlets and said that it was working on fixing the problem, although no other details were provided.

Some social media users noted that the iPhone’s “Attention Aware Features” may be the reason for the problem. The feature can tell if a user is paying attention to their phone and might lower the volume if it detects that the user is looking at the phone.
